The BaliSpirit Mission by BaliSpirit.com
We bring together the best of Bali's sustainable, holistic products &
practitioners
Our Mission
BaliSpirit provides a centralized registry of Indonesia's holistic living
venues, services and activities. Still in progress, BaliSpirit.com is the only
website of its kind – having a client-member base of conscientious small
business owners who love Indonesia and want to see her industries revive while
working harder to preserve what attracted us here in the first place:
environment, culture and spirituality. BaliSpirit's target audience is health
conscious and interested in Bali from an intellectual, holistic or spiritual
point of view. What is Holistic from the BaliSpirit perspective?
Earth-friendly, Socially responsible & Health-mind-body conscious.
About Bali Spirit's Founders
American Meghan Pappenheim has lived in Bali since 1994 with her Ubud-born
husband Kadek Gunarta - together they support a wide range of craft producers
from around the Indonesian archipelago through their businesses: Tegun Galeri,
Dek's Studio, Kafe & Balispirit.com. Kadek's deep grounding in the Balinese
culture and its spiritual values makes him an ideal guide for those who want a
genuine Balinese experience. Both Meghan and Kadek are committed to the
prosperity of their community and the island of Bali. Every project they
undertake embraces Fair Trade principals and protects the environment.
Kadek Gunarta
An Ubud native who comes from a long line of traditional craftsman, Kadek is a
talented designer and woodworker who understands Western design needs. Kadek
began helping buyers export Indonesian handicrafts a decade ago while running
his family's painting gallery. His growing concern about Indonesia's
environmental degradation led him to begin creating furniture from recycled
wood.
Through Dek's Studio, Kadek collects old carved house panels, plow handles,
ship planks and other antique hardwood which he incroporates into rustic yet
stylish tables, cupboards and other furniture items. He also runs a small
production facility near the gallery for customized export orders.
Meghan Pappenheim - better known as Meg
Meghan Pappenheim was born in New York City in 1971, the child of an English father and American mother. She attended the United Nations International School from age 13. A Social Entrepreneur from the start, Meg started her first business at 9 yrs old selling plantings to neighbors. Meghan first visited Indonesia on an overseas study program where she met her future Balinese husband Dekgun. During the 19 years of their partnership they have produced two kids and expanded a vibrant group of companies in Ubud, including this website, The Yoga Barn and KUSH Ayurveda, The Yoga Shop, Tegun Galeri, Dek's Studio, the well known hang-out KAFE and the newest restaurant in the clan called Kebun.
A certified yoga teacher, Meghan feels strongly that the practice of yoga greatly enhances people's lives on every level. This realization, along with her personal commitment to creating and maintaining local community outreach and support programs, has been the driving force behind the annual BaliSpirit Festival, one of the latest additions to "The BaliSpirit" group of businesses. Through this, the successful Ayo! Kita Bicara HIV/AIDS awareness project, funded by proceeds from the Festival, was born. This project aims to educate Balinese teens about the danger of HIV/AIDS in their community through interactive Edu-spirit workshops in local high schools. For 2012, Meghan has embarked on a new mission to re-forest the very poor eastern side of Bali with water retaining Bamboo. For more information on the benefits of Bamboo in arid lands, please see: http://www.balispiritfestival.com/bali-bamboo-forest.html.
Testimonials
"I want to let you know how much I enjoyed my classes at your yoga studio.
I learned so much from Jane. She is such a good teacher. I have been able to
use what I learned from her in the classes I teach here on Saipan. I feel more
knowledgable and confident in my teaching. So thank you for creating
Balispirit. I am planning to return to Bali next summer to take more classes,
so see you then."

Joining the BaliSpirit online Family?
Does your business give back to community, earth and spirit? As environmentally
& socially conscious enterprises we share a common thread. BaliSpirit has
created an opportunity for small businesses to cross-pollinate and bond
together with others who share a similar vision. As we connect in one place,
our promotional and marketing voice gets louder. Our identity changes as we
become part of a larger group, playing our part to make positive change on this
island and then, in this world. We owe it to ourselves and to Bali to work
together on this project and have our voices heard.
